Heinrich Jackli

Heinrich Jäckli (born December 22, 1915 in Seebach (City of Zurich) ; † April 3, 1994 ) was a Swiss geologist who dealt in particular with hydrogeology .

life and work

Jäckli went to school in Oerlikon and Zurich (cantonal high school) (Abitur 1934), made his diploma in geology at ETH Zurich in 1938 , where he received his doctorate in 1940 under Rudolf Staub (1890–1961) ( geological investigations in northern West Schams (Graubünden) ). He founded an engineering geological consulting company that still exists today. In addition, he was a private lecturer at ETH Zurich from 1955 to 1980, and from 1969 as adjunct professor. Among other things, he held lectures on hydrogeology there.

Among other things, he dealt with hydrogeology, engineering geology and geological issues relating to the emplacement of radioactive waste. With his engineering office he was involved in the investigation of the building site for the Kloten Airport near Zurich and in the 1960s he worked a lot on storage power plants and river power plants as well as transport projects, then in groundwater protection and expert opinions for landfills.

In 1967 he created the hydrogeological map of Switzerland (scale 1: 500,000). He also dealt with the Ice Age and created a map of the glaciation of Switzerland (scale 1: 550,000, from 1970) in the Ice Age in the Atlas of Switzerland by Eduard Imhof .

In 1991 he received the Leopold von Buch badge . He was an honorary member of the German Quaternary Association . In 1976 he became an honorary member of the Upper Rhine Geological Association (OGV) .
