Heinrich Ludwig (local history researcher)
Johann Heinrich Ludwig (born September 1, 1865 in Bockenheim ; † March 12, 1952 there ) was a German teacher and local researcher.
After his training at the Dillenburg teacher training college, he worked as a teacher at several schools in Bockenheim from 1888 onwards. First at the Bockenheim boys' elementary school, then at the Frankeschule and finally at the Kaufung school, from which he retired in 1930 as vice-principal as a teacher.
In 1910 he had already self-published, together with Matthäus Müller, the book "Alt-Bockenheim in words and pictures". Since his retirement, he spent almost ten years writing the basic, almost 400-page work “History of the Village and the City of Bockenheim”. It was published by Verlag Dr. Waldemar Kramer in Frankfurt and is still the most extensive work on this area, today the largest district of Frankfurt am Main.
His house in Frankfurt-Bockenheim, Grempstrasse 40, was bombed out on September 12, 1944 during the air raids on Frankfurt am Main, along with all its inventory and its library.
He is buried in the New Bockenheim Cemetery.
