Heinrich Martens

Heinrich Martens ( Russian Генрих Генрихович Мартенс, scientific transliteration Genrich Genrichovič Martens ; * 1956 in Donetsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Russian-German cultural activist. Martens is founder and chairman of the International Association of German Culture (IVDK), chairman of the Federation of Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Russian Germans (FNKA) and founder and publisher of the Moscow German newspaper (MDZ).

Life

Heinrich Martens was born in 1956 in a family of Russian Mennonites in the city of Donetsk (now Ukraine). In 1974 he graduated from middle school and worked until 1981 a. a. in the Research Department for Technical Training Aids at the Donetsk State University. In 1986 Martens graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic as a mining engineer and worked for the coal industry in the Soviet Union until 1991 . In the later years Heinrich Martens campaigned on a national level in Russia and also on an international level, especially for the cultural concerns of Russian Germans. He is married to Olga Martens and lives in Moscow .

Commitment to Germans in Russia

In 1989 Martens founded the Donetsk Regional Society of the Soviet German "Rebirth" and in 1991 the International Association of German Culture, of which he is still chairman today.

Since 1991 Heinrich Martens has organized numerous nationwide and interregional cultural festivals as well as educational and language projects, most of which were funded by the Russian Federation. Since 1992 Martens has been a member of the “Intergovernmental German-Russian Commission for the Problems of Russian Germans”. In the mid-1990s, Martens initiated the founding of the Russian German Youth Association , an interregional NGO in Russia.

In 1997/98 Heinrich Martens organized the re-establishment of the Moscow German newspaper, of which he is the editor to this day. Martens also founded the Russian-German publisher “IVDK-Press” and the children's magazine Schrumdirum , which is also used as a German teaching tool for children.

Martens has participated in the meetings of the German-Russian Forum Petersburg Dialogue since 2004 , has been a member of the working group of the Committee on National Affairs of the Duma since 2005 and was awarded the Honorary Certificate of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation for his contribution to the development of the international Relations in the Russian Federation excellent.

Heinrich Martens is the representative of the Russian President Vladimir Putin .
