Heinrich Seemann (diplomat)

Heinrich Seemann (born May 22, 1935 in Stuttgart ) is a former German diplomat and author .

Life

Seemann studied law in Freiburg. After receiving his doctorate, he began a career in the Foreign Service with activities in the USA, Nepal (1967–1971) and Japan. He then worked as a foreign policy advisor to Federal Presidents Walter Scheel and Karl Carstens . From 1982 to 1986 he was ambassador to Mali , then chief of protocol of the federal government. During the period when the autocratic system of rule in Indonesia was coming to an end and democratic structures were introduced by President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie , Heinrich Seemann was ambassador to Jakarta (1994-2000). In 2002 he set up the first training course for young diplomats from the Islamic world at the Foreign Office in Berlin.

Seemann wrote several works dealing with East Asia.
