Heinrich von Lammesspringe

Heinrich von Lammesspringe , also Heinrich von Lammespringe , Heinrich von Lamspringe , Henricus von Lammespringe (* around 1325, † 1386 ), was a medieval chronicler and is considered the founder of the Magdeburg Schöppenchronik .

After a theological and ecclesiastical training and his ordination as a priest , he was employed in the autumn of 1350 as a lay clerk in Magdeburg . In this office he initiated the Schöppenchronik, which explains the history of the city of Magdeburg and is considered an important work of medieval city historiography. His texts represent the most extensive part of the chronicle continued by his successors until 1516.

In addition to his income as a lay clerk, he also had income as a council clerk. For the council he was active in diplomatic missions. In addition, he earned income from a benefice as an altarist at the Magdeburg Sankt-Petri-Kirche .
