Heinrich zu Hardegg

Heinrich Graf zu Hardegg (born November 8, 1843 in Seefeld ; † May 12, 1898 in Vienna ) was a businessman, private scholar and founder of the Heinrich Graf Hardegg Foundation .

Life

Heinrich Graf Hardegg spent his childhood on the Majoratsgut of the Hardegg family in Seefeld-Kadolz in northern Lower Austria. In 1863 he entered the military, where he served as a lieutenant in Cuirassier Regiment 1 until 1865 . He then worked successfully as a businessman and private scholar in Vienna. When he died on May 12, 1898, he had issued a will that his entire estate should be used for a foundation.

The Foundation

The foundation is non-profit and charitable. In the founder's first letter of foundation from 1893, the purpose of the foundation was stated as follows: “To offer these funds to ambitious young men from the nobility and other classes who, after having obtained a doctorate degree, lack sufficient funds for further training to be effective in the public interest ".

In its current guise, the foundation is called Heinrich Graf Hardegg'sche Foundation and states that “ambitious young men and women who, after having obtained a doctorate in law, political science or economics, lack sufficient funds for further education, these funds” .

The foundation's assets consist of real estate, the net income of which goes towards the scholarships. The Board of Trustees, which consists of a chairman and two assessors, is responsible for administering the foundation's assets and awarding the scholarships. The chair is chaired by a member of the Hardegg family , the assessors are each a professor from the legal and social and economic faculties. The scholarships are advertised in the Dean's Office of the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna .
