Heinz-Dietrich Steinmeyer

Heinz-Dietrich Steinmeyer (born July 1, 1949 in Lemgo ) is a German legal scholar . From 1994 to 2017 he held the Chair for Social Law and Director of the Institute for Labor, Social and Business Law - Department II at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . His main research interests are in the areas of national and European social and labor law as well as social security systems in Central and Eastern Europe and questions of comparative law.

Life

Steinmeyer was born in Lemgo in 1949. After graduating from high school in Bergneustadt in 1968 , he devoted himself to studying law at the University of Bonn . In 1975 he passed the first state examination . From 1975 to 1978 Steinmeyer worked as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin with Baron von Maydell. Steinmeyer completed his legal clerkship in 1980 with the second state examination. In the same year he received his doctorate on the topic "The radiation in international social security law" at the Free University of Berlin.

After a research stay in Washington DC, Steinmeyer completed his habilitation in 1988 at the University of Bonn on the subject of "Company pension schemes and employment relationships". In 1989 he was appointed professor for private law with subsidiary areas at the University of Augsburg. In 1991 he was appointed to the chair for civil law, labor and social law at the FernUniversität Hagen.

Steinmeyer has a daughter.

Others

Steinmeyer is a commentator on the Company Pension Act (BetrAVG) in the Erfurt Commentary on Labor Law. From 1996 to 2016 he was first chairman of the Münster Social Rights Association (MSV). He is also chairman of the "European Network for Research on Supplementary Pensions" eV (ENRSP). Steinmeyer is involved as a lecturer in several master’s courses at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster / JurGrad gGmbH and is the academic director of the master’s course in “Labor Law”.
