history

Heinz Kühn, 1966

The socialist educational institute already existed in the 1920s, the model of which was in turn the workers' education associations of the 19th century, in which German workers could deepen their education according to their interests.

The establishment of the Heinz-Kühn-Bildungswerk can be traced back to the Socialist Educational Communities (SBG). In 1947, Heinz Kühn founded his first informal educational community. At regular meetings, Kühn gave lectures on the history of the labor movement in Germany and, with Willi Eichler, established a forum for the exchange of ideas about the principles of a new party program. The content-related work primarily conveyed political knowledge that tried to overcome the burdens of National Socialism and wanted to generate and strengthen democratic awareness.

The Bildungswerk describes the further education law from 1975 (during the term of office of Minister President Heinz Kühn) as a milestone in its own history . Here the promotion of political education was legally fixed.

The Heinz-Kühn-Bildungswerk aims to reach around 10,000 people annually with its offers.
