Heinz Grzella (born February 1, 1929 - † December 28, 2009 ) was a German football player .

Career

Grzella grew up in Schalke-Nord and trained as an electrician. He already played in the youth of FC Schalke 04 and was just 19 years old when he joined the first team of the league club in the 1947/48 season . In terms of sport, the club would have been relegated in twelfth place in the following season, but in the course of an adjustment to the other major leagues, the Oberliga West was increased from 13 to 16 clubs. In a relegation round , the miners met Bayer 04 Leverkusen and VfL Benrath , reinforced by Hermann Eppenhoff , who had just returned from captivity . In the 1-0 win against Leverkusen, Grzella scored the decisive goal; in the 9-0 win over Benrath, he scored three goals.

Schalke remained first class, but Grzella moved to Sportfreunde Katernberg after only 20 games (without the relegation mentioned above) , where he played with the eventual world champion "Boss" Rahn and rose again to the league after the first season . Until 1955 Grzella was then active with TSG Vohwinkel and one more season with their successor Wuppertaler SV . In the season 1955/56 he came to the north upper division club Eintracht Nordhorn for use. Due to knee problems, he ended his first division career, returned to his hometown and practiced his profession at the Consolidation colliery . Whether he has played a few more games for the Schalke amateurs - the trade press reported his move there - is not certain.
