Heinz Heinrichs (born April 26, 1886 in Aachen , † 1957 in Berlin ) was a German landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Live and act

After completing school in Aachen, Heinrichs began studying painting at the Aachen School of Applied Arts in Eugène Klinckenberg's class , but soon switched to the Düsseldorf Art Academy , which had a decisive influence on him. He deepened his education through studies in Berlin with Olof Jernberg and in Paris as well as through numerous study trips to many European countries. He then settled in his hometown Aachen, where he was elected long-term chairman of the Aachener Künstlerbund in 1921. Heinrichs became aware of Heinrichs through two group exhibitions with well-known painters in 1923 and 1933, as well as through several solo exhibitions, including in the Reiff Museum . The Aachen art historian Ernst Günther Grimme wrote in the exhibition catalog of the Reiff Museum that “ he [Heinrichs] succeeded in asserting himself in the circle of Rhenish painters and occupying an excellent position. He has long been noticed abroad, too, and his work is particularly valued by critics in Paris. "

Heinrichs mainly specialized in landscape painting, here in particular on views from the Eifel and the Aachen region, but he also painted cityscapes, portraits such as those of the art professor Max Schmid-Burgk , or self-portraits, for example as an officer candidate in 1916 during the First World War or later around 1930 in his Aachen studio.

Heinrich's works are mostly in private hands, a representative part of at least 14 pictures are kept in the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen.

After Heinrich's death in Berlin in 1957, the "Heinz Heinrichs Gedächtnis-Stiftung" (Heinz Heinrichs Gedächtnis-Stiftung) of the Aachen Museumsverein was set up, which as a foundation under private law exclusively pursues non-profit purposes. With the income from the foundation, Heinrich's works should be maintained and exhibitions made accessible, as well as pictures by other artists. Artists who are in the context of Heinrich's works can receive travel grants and study grants with the help of the foundation.
