Heinz Pieces (1999)

Heinz Pieces (born January 11, 1940 ) is a German cyclist who, according to his own statements, has traveled all parts of the world (196 countries) on a three-speed bicycle from his home town of Hövelhof since August 1962 . For a while he held the world record for cycling the longest distance cycled.

Pieces is a trained toolmaker and financed his travels by selling booklets with information about his travels and by giving lectures in the larger cities he visited.

According to his own statements, until August 2005, i.e. in 37 years, Heinz Stück rode more than 530,000 km with the same bike. Over the years it has been stolen five times, each time getting it back after a short time. The last theft took place in Portsmouth on May 8, 2006 , and the bike was found the next day.

By 2014 it had brought pieces to 648,000 kilometers. In that year he ended his trip and moved to his home village Hövelhof in a small apartment provided by the community, where he celebrated his 80th birthday in 2020. The museum planned there to commemorate his journeys has not yet been realized.
