The Altchemnitz heating plant (also Chemnitz-Süd combined heat and power plant ) is a top -quality natural gas heating plant located in Chemnitz-Altchemnitz . It produces district heating with two hot water generators, each with a thermal output of 116 megawatts. The heating plant was built with three hot water generators and operated with heating oil. From 1981, the complete two-fuel operation with crude oil or natural gas and a total output of 348 megawatts took place. In the course of the modernization, the oil operation was stopped and a hot water generator was dismantled. For this reason, the total output fell to 232 megawatts. The heating plant does not generate any electricity, is only used to supply heat and is used on particularly cold winter days or during a prolonged cold period. The chimney measures 225 meters. The heating plant feeds the Chemnitz district heating network from the south and is operated by Eins Energie in Saxony .
