Hekatombaion

The Hekatombaion (from Hekatombe ) is the first month of the Attic year . It roughly corresponds to July on the Julian calendar . On the 28th Hekatombaion, the Panathenaia were celebrated in Athens in honor of the city goddess Athena , which, among other things, commemorated the birth of Erechtheus , King of Athens and foster son of the goddess Athena with the performance of a newly woven cult blanket for Athena .
