Helena Rojo (* 18 August 1944 in Mexico City as María Elena Enríquez Ruiz ) is a Mexican actress .

life and career

Helena Rojo completed an acting training in the 1960s and worked as a model on the side . She made her film debut in 1968 and three years later she played the role for which she is probably best known in German-speaking countries: In Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes by Werner Herzog , she played the main female role of the strong-willed mistress at the side of Klaus Kinski Inés de Atienza . Subsequently, Rojo played mainly in Mexican film and television productions, with a few exceptions - for example the 1975 film Tödliches Inselparadies , in which she appeared on the side of Charlotte Rampling , Peter O'Toole and Max von Sydow . Rojo starred in the movies of important Mexican directors like Felipe Cazals , Arturo Ripstein , Rafael Corkidi and Jorge Fons . Rojo took on her first leading role in a telenovela in 1973 with Extraño en su pueblo . To this day, she is a busy actress who plays numerous leading and supporting roles in Mexican telenovelas.

In 1972 she won the premio Ariel, the most important Mexican film award, for her appearance in the film Fin de fiesta , and in 1992 she was nominated again for her role in the crime thriller Muerte ciega . Helena Rojo is now married to Benjamin Fernández for the second time and has three children and a stepson.
