Helene Klaar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helene Klaar (* 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer specializing in divorces .

After studying law and passing the bar exam, she began working as a freelance lawyer in 1976. At first she was reluctant to specialize in family law because, as she said, her political activities in the women's movement meant that her comrades passed on women who were abandoned by their husbands. In 1982 she was commissioned by the Minister for Women, Johanna Dohnal , to write a divorce guide for women on the then new family law, which enjoyed great popularity.

Since then, Klaar has been regarded as "Austria's most feared divorce lawyer", even if she is known for advising her clients against a divorce if their situation is not unbearable. In 2004 she received the Vienna Women's Prize for her "special services to women in the event of divorce".
