Heligholmen

Heligholmen is an 11.8 hectare island in the parish of Vamlingbo in the south of the largest Swedish island of Gotland . It is located about 300 meters from the Gotland coast, near the fishing station Holm (Holmhällar) in the parish of Vamlingbo and from Holmhällars Raukengebiet in southern Gotland.

The island is a bird sanctuary and cannot be entered from March 15th to June 30th. Carl von Linné visited and described the island during his trip to Gotland in 1741. The shallow reef between Holmhällar and Heligholmen is called Hästgangen and has dangerous underwater currents. The only building on the island is the lighthouse, built in 1913.
