The Hellig Kvinde ( German  Holy Woman ) is a stone ( menhir ) on the Danish island of Bornholm .

description

The building stone, which is unusually high for Bornholm, stands together with another building stone on the remains of a low roe ( cairn grave ). Immediately to the east of the Röse are 10 smaller megaliths , which form an elongated oval set of ships from the late Iron Age (around 500 BC). The facility is located on the land route between Svaneke and Gudhjem , near the sea and the mouth of the Gyldenså.

Legend, documentation

An old legend tells that the large building stone on the hill is a holy woman and the smaller stones are her children. They were turned to stone to avoid imminent danger. In the old days, passers-by greeted the holy woman and her children reverently, as did the building stone Hellig Hågen near Nexø .

A commission for the preservation of prehistoric monuments asked the pastors of the area to provide information about the ancient monuments on site. Among the two reported from Bornholm was the “holy woman”.
