Hellmut Ernst

Hellmut Ernst (born September 19, 1903 in Zeiden ; † February 14, 1966 in Nuremberg ) was a German mechanical engineer.

After graduating from high school in Sibiu, Ernst studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and the TH Danzig. In Danzig he was an assistant at the chair for lifting equipment. After that he was with Bleichert u. Co. in Leipzig, where he dealt with cranes, cable cars and loading systems. In 1932 he received his doctorate at the TH Danzig (contribution to the assessment of the official regulations for ropes of passenger suspension railways). From 1935 he was in MAN's crane construction department in Nuremberg, and from 1952 as manager.

From 1942 to 1945 he was also professor for conveyor technology at the TH Danzig.

He was one of the leading crane building experts in the early Federal Republic and his monograph on it was a standard work.

In 1964 he received an honorary doctorate from the TH Munich.
