A hello world program is a small computer program that is intended to show in the simplest possible way which instructions or components are required for a complete program in a programming language , and thus gives an initial insight into the syntax . The task of the program is to display the text Hello World! or in English Hello World! to spend. Because of the simple task, such programs are particularly suitable for didactic purposes. That is why it is used as an entry-level program in many programming textbooks.

history

The use of the text "Hello World!" Is a tradition and goes back to Programming in C - A Tutorial , an internal programming manual of Bell Laboratories on the programming language C , which Brian Kernighan wrote in 1974 after he had written the words " hello ”and“ world ”in an introduction to the B programming language . Awareness but the text attained only through 1978 is published in the book The C Programming Language ( German  Programming in C ) by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie .
