The Hellstone

The Hellstone (also Hell Stone - German  "Höllenstein" ) on Portesham Hill is about 1.0 km north of Portesham and about 1.0 km southeast of the reserve "Valley of Stones" in Dorset in England .

The dolmen , whose capstone fell in 1860, was poorly restored in 1866 when the bearing stones were arranged radially. The chamber may originally have been rectangular.

The Höllenstein is located at the end of a dry valley and at the southeast end of an approximately 24.0 m long, approximately 1.0 m high, trapezoidal hill oriented from northwest to southeast. The hill tapers from about 12.0 m wide at the southeast to about 8.0 m at the northwest end.

About 2.0 km to the west is the chamber grave remains of The Gray Mare and her Colts .
