Helmut Ahrens (born September 26, 1950 ) is a German biographer and journalist.

Life

He was born as the son of an actress and a journalist in Mainz and grew up in Alzey, Rhineland-Hesse . He studied literature and history at the Universities of Mainz and Frankfurt and at the same time took up a traineeship at the Association and Trade Journal Publishers (Mainz) in 1969 , the magazine of which the journalist took over as editor-in-chief in 1972.

In 1974 Ahrens became a member of the editorial team of the Börsenblatt for the German book trade , was a co-developer of the daily fair newspaper during the days of the International Frankfurt Book Fair , accompanied the first year of the book fair (Latin America), wrote publisher portraits. In the mid-1970s he was invited to St Edmund Hall ( University of Oxford ), after which he resumed his work in the "Börsenblatt". He has worked as a consulting journalist since the 1990s. For many years he was a freelance consultant for press and public relations for the Rhineland-Palatinate Dental Association.

Ahrens wrote scripts for documentaries for the Second German Television and is the author of short stories.

Helmut Ahrens is married and has two grown sons.

Helmut Ahrens heads the board of trustees of the Hildegard von Bingen Prize for Journalism, an award he initiated.
