Helmut Baumgärtel

Helmut Baumgärtel (born July 15, 1936 in Selb ) is a German physical chemist .

Life

Helmut Baumgärtel studied chemistry at the TH München and received his doctorate in physical chemistry in 1962 . In 1971 he completed his habilitation . After he worked from 1964 to 1968 as a scientific advisor at the University of Munich and then as an academic advisor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , the University of Freiburg appointed him professor in 1974. In 1970 he carried out his first work with synchrotron radiation at DESY in Hamburg .

In 1977 he was appointed professor of physical chemistry at the Free University of Berlin and retired in 2004. From 1978 to 1982 he was the scientific director of the Berlin Electron Storage Ring Society for Synchrotron Radiation (BESSY).

From 1995 to 1996 he was first chairman of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry ( Bunsen Society ). Since 2003 he has been an honorary member of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry. This honored Helmut Baumgärtel's exemplary commitment to science in general and to physical chemistry in particular, for the German Bunsen Society and for the journal Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics , PCCP. In 1999 he played a key role in the merger of the specialist journals Faraday Transactions and reports of the Bunsen Society to form the PCCP magazine and represented the Bunsen Society on the PCCP Ownership Board for several years.
