Helmut Cox

Helmut Cox (born January 1, 1938 in Aachen ) is a German economist . From 1970 to 2003 he was a full professor of economics at the Duisburg University of Applied Sciences and the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg.

Life

Cox attended the Staatliche Gymnasium Kleve, where he graduated from high school in 1958. From 1958 to 1962 he studied economics and social sciences at the University of Cologne . He then worked as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Social Policy and the Cooperative System Seminar at Cologne University until 1970. During this time in 1966 he did his doctorate with the topic “The order of the original distribution as an object of property policy. For the formation of personal productive assets in employee hands. "

Between 1968 and 1971 he held several teaching positions for economics, economic and social policy at the University of Cologne and the PH Rhineland , until in 1970 he was appointed to the chair for economics / economics at the PH Ruhr . In 1972 he changed to full professor for economics / special economic policy / didactics of economics at the Gerhard-Mercator-Universität Duisburg. In 1974 he was offered a professorship for economics at the Rhineland University of Education / University of Cologne, which he refused.

He was a member of the rectorate as vice-rector and chairman of the structure and budget commissions at the University of Duisburg, member of the founding senate of the University of Duisburg and dean of the economics department of the University of Duisburg. In 2003 he retired.

Since 1991 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Society for Public Economy in Berlin, since 1995 a board member of the International Research and Information Center for Public Economy in Liège (CIRIEC / IFIG) and chairman of the International Scientific Commission "Public Enterprises" and member of the editorial board of scientific journal "Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics / Annales de l'Économie Publique Sociale et Cooperative".

Cox has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1958. Rheno-Baltia Cologne.
