Helmut Fessen

Helmut Fessen (* 1934 in Essen ) is a German historian .

Life

After graduating from high school in Essen in 1951, he studied theology, economics (with an intermediate diploma ), law and sinology at the University of Bonn from 1951 to 1955 . In 1955 he moved to Leipzig , where he married and studied Sinology and Indonesian Studies. In 1959 he received his diploma in Sinology from the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1959 to 1962 he was in the League for Friendship of Peoples for Indonesia. Between 1962 and 1963 he studied history and language of Indonesia at Lomonosov University . After receiving his doctorate in 1966 and his habilitation in 1970, he became a university lecturer. From 1973 to 1976 he was a diplomat in China. In 1987 he became an associate professor in the Asian Studies section. At the end of 1991 he left Humboldt University. He has been a retiree since 1995.
