Helmut Hähnel

Helmut Hähnel (born January 11, 1913 - † February 17, 2000 ) was a German stenographer .

Hähnel was a teacher, in the 1970s a senior teacher. In 1970, he worked with Manfred Kehrer and others on the reform of the German unified shorthand in the GDR . He was a member of the Presidium of the Society for Stenography and Typing of the GDR. In the GDR magazine Pädagogik , he was described as "probably the most important shorthand scholar" in the GDR. His formulation of abbreviation principles is used in a study on the history of shorthand systems.

Hähnel's bibliographic legacy, consisting of monographs and journals as well as machine manuscripts, is archived in the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library.

Hahnel was married and had a daughter.
