Helmut Höhenberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmut Höhenberger (* 1931 in Dortmund ) is a former German wrestler and member of the ASV hero Dortmund .

There he learned the ABC of wrestling with Willi Liebern and in 1949 became German youth champion in the class up to 60 kg body weight. Even in his active days he hardly weighed any more and always started in the featherweight class (up to 62 kg body weight). He won his first German championship among the active in 1951 in free style in front of old master Georg Pulheim , Cologne and his club mate Rolf Ellerbrock . In 1952 he became German master in the Greco-Roman style before Ellerbrock and Fritz Albrecht , Viernau / GDR. At that time all-German championships were held. In 1954 he repeated this success, this time before Hugo Heuser , Dettingen and Manfred Spatz , Feudenheim. In 1955 and 1959 he was German runner-up in featherweight (Greco-Roman style).

Although he had become German champion in 1952, it was not him but Rolf Ellerbrock who was nominated for the Olympic Games in Helsinki. In 1953 and 1955 he then took part in the World Championships in Naples and Karlsruhe, each in the Greco-Roman style. Both times, however, he had pronounced Lospech, as he met the eventual world champion in the third round. In 1953 this was Olle Anderberg , Sweden and in 1955 Imre Polyák , Hungary. He lost to both and was eliminated. In 1953 he was 7th and in 1955 only 11th. Höhenberger had fought fair and decent and made a good impression in the international wrestling world.

He wrestled five international matches and was German team champion six times with Heros Dortmund. Because of this sporting success he was on 12./13. Awarded the silver bay leaf in October 1951.
