Helmut Karl

Helmut Karl (born September 10, 1955 in Emmendingen ) is a German economist. Since 2002 he has been a professor at the Ruhr University Bochum for economics , particularly economic policy, and chairman of the board of the Ruhr Research Institute for Innovation and Structural Policy (RUFIS). He succeeded his doctoral supervisor Paul Klemmer in both institutions . Since 2010 he has been Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Life

Study of economics and business administration as well as history. Graduation from the Faculty of Economics at the Ruhr University Bochum Diplom-Ökonom (1983) and PhD in 1986 [Dr. rer. oec.]. During this time research assistant at the Council of Experts for Environmental Issues (Wiesbaden). 1992 Habilitation (venia legendi for economics) at the Ruhr University. During this time research assistant at the Faculty of Economics and at the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (RWI) in Essen. Mid-1992 lecturer in economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum, where he was on leave to represent a university professorship for environmental and resource economics at the University of Göttingen. 1993 call to the University of Göttingen and the University of Bonn each for a university professorship for environmental and resource economics. In the winter semester 1993/94 he took over a university professorship for environmental and resource economics at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn; During this time from 1995 to 1996 Managing Director of the Institute for Agricultural Policy, Market Research and Economic Sociology at the University of Bonn. WS 1996/67 - SS 2002 professorship for economics, in particular economic policy, at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Since September 2002 assumption of the professorship “Economic Policy III” at the Ruhr University Bochum and chairman of the Ruhr Research Institute for Innovation and Structural Policy (RUFIS). Research focuses on economic policy, regional and environmental economics.

One of his publications is the handbook of regional economic development , which he published with Hans Hermann Eberstein .
