Helmut Möckel (* December 7, 1921 - December 22, 2011 ) was a soccer player in Zwickau . With the BSG Horch Zwickau he became the first GDR football champion in 1950.

The company sports association (BSG) Horch Zwickau, founded in 1949 , finished the soccer season 1948/49 as fourth in the Saxon soccer championship. After three qualifying games against the Thuringian SG Zeiss Jena (1: 1, 2: 2 and 5: 1), the Zwickau team qualified for the newly established upper league of the German Sports Committee . The 27-year-old defender Helmut Möckel was also part of the Zwickau squad for the first league season in 1949/50. The team from the Horch automobile plant in Zwickau ended the season as the first GDR soccer champions. Möckel, who works in Horch's purchasing department, played 17 out of the 26 point games played. Möckel remained active in the major league for four more seasons for Zwickau, renamed BSG Motor in 1950. When he retired from competitive sports at the age of 33 after the 1954/55 season, he had completed a total of 124 point games in the GDR elite league, in which 182 games had been played during this time.
