Helmut Ortner (born April 11, 1927 in Aschach an der Donau ) is an Austrian actor and founder of the Linz cellar theater .

Life

Ortner first worked as a bank clerk and then trained as an actor and got a job at the Baden City Theater . From 1954 he worked for VÖEST , where he took over the company's own theater stage, where performances were held for employees. Later he and his colleagues set up a theater in the basement of the former Café Goethe at the Goethekreuzung in Linz . That was the hour of birth of the Linz cellar theater , which moved to the main square in 1957 and Ortner managed from the beginning until 1990. By 2010 Ortner appeared in over 120 different roles. He was particularly successful with comedies and is therefore known as the doyen of Linz acting.

Son Wolfgang Ortner , who took over the management of the cellar theater in 1990, and grandson Maximilian Ortner are also actors. Ortner lives in Ansfelden .
