Helmut Potente (born August 31, 1939 in Brakel , Höxter district ) is a German engineering scientist. He was a professor of plastics technology and from 1980 to 2004 he was head of the Institute for Plastics Technology at the University of Paderborn .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962, Potente studied mechanical engineering , specializing in process engineering, at RWTH Aachen University . In 1968 he wrote his diploma thesis, after which he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Plastics Processing in Industry and Craft. In 1971 the doctorate followed with the topic: "Investigation of the weldability of thermoplastics with ultrasound".

From 1971 to 1974 Potente was head of the laboratory for plastics process technology and the engineering group "Plastics Consulting, Production and Customers" at Westfälische Metallindustrie KG Hueck & Co. in Lippstadt. His main areas of work were process management of injection molding , material development of elastomers , duromers and molded part quality in connection with finishing operations such as painting, vacuum metallizing, electroplating, etc. During this time, he also gave physics lessons at high school.

From July 1974 to December 1979, Potente was a scientific adviser, professor and member of the management of the Institute for Plastics Processing in Industry and Craft (IKV) at RWTH Aachen University . From January 1980 to August 2004 he was professor for "Technology of Plastics", from 1982 to 1983 he was also Dean of the Department of Machine Technology at the University of Paderborn . After his retirement in August 2004 he took over the representation of the chair “Technology of Plastics” as emeritus. Prof. Dr.-Ing. In 2008 Elmar Moritzer succeeded Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Potente started.
