Helmut Soerensen

Helmut Sörensen (born April 12, 1936 in Hamburg ) is a German rheumatologist and has been state chairman of the German Rheumatism League Berlin since 1985 .

Helmut Sörensen went to school in Berlin and Hamburg and became a doctor in 1963 after studying medicine. He continued his training first as a pathologist in Bremen, later as an internist and rheumatologist at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia , USA. Because of the Vietnam War, he returned to Germany after six years in the USA and worked from 1971 to 1977 as an assistant in the internal clinic at the Westend Clinic at the Free University of Berlin . Between 1977 and 1980 Sörensen was a medical advisor on the organizational and planning staff of the Charlottenburg Clinic at the Free University of Berlin . From 1980 to 1986 he worked as a senior physician in the internal rheumatology department of the Immanuel Hospital, rheumatism clinic in Berlin-Wannsee, helping to set up the rheumatism outpatient clinic. In 1983 he was a co-founder of the Society for Research into Rheumatic Diseases Forschungszentrum Berlin e. V. He has been state chairman of the German Rheuma League Berlin since 1985. Between 1987 and 2002 Sörensen was chief physician in the internal rheumatology department of the Immanuel Hospital. In 1988 he was involved in the establishment of the German Rheumatism Research Center in Berlin.

In 1972 he established his "Rheumatism Dr. Sörensen ”, first in the Westend Medical Polyclinic, then in the Immanuel Hospital. In 1996 he received the Federal Cross of Merit at the suggestion of patients.

Sörensen is a member of the German Society for Rheumatology, the Regional Rheumazentrum Berlin and an "International Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology". The rheumatism project Berlin-Brandenburg (GmbH) initiated by him is a contribution to maintaining medical care for rheumatism sufferers and offers rheumatological medical practices aids in survival.

Since May 2002 he has been the senior physician at the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin-Zehlendorf, where he continues the rheumatism consultation he started in 1972 in addition to a department for clinical rheumatism research.
