Helsinkite is a rare granite / unakite variety that was first found and described in Helsinki . Helsinkit mainly consists of the white mineral albite and epidote , which is colored reddish-brown by the addition of hematite . Because of its sheen, Helsinkit is often used as a gemstone .

The rock takes its name from the city of Helsinki, where it was first found in the early 19th century in the Kallio district at the intersection of Alppikatu and Ensi linja streets .

The Mohs hardness of Helsinkit is 6-7.
