Helwig Arenz (* 1981 in Nuremberg ) is a German actor, director and writer.

Life

Arenz was born as the sixth child of the Arenz family. His oldest brother is the writer Ewald Arenz , his sister Sigrun Arenz is also a novelist. He completed his acting training at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz (Austria). Since graduating in 2006, he has worked at various German theaters, including the State Theater in Wilhelmshaven, the State Theater Schwaben in Memmingen, the State Theater in Hof and the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater Hamburg. From 2013 to 2016 he was a member of the Theater Pfütze ensemble in Nuremberg; today he is a freelance actor and writer.

His short story Tom und Tierchen won the audience award in 2013 in the competition for the Franconian crime prize. As an author he is under contract with ars vivendi Verlag . His youth play Caligula and the girl on the stairs was awarded the Dutch-German Youth Dramatist Prize and premiered under Arenz's direction on February 20, 2019 at the Gostner Hoftheater in Nuremberg. In 2018 he received the Bavarian Art Prize for his literary achievements. Helwig Arenz lives and works in Nuremberg.
