history

origin

The headquarters of the LTS at Memminger Theaterplatz

According to the records of the city chronicle, theater was already being played in the free imperial city in the Middle Ages. The forerunner of today's Landestheater Schwaben was the Kraft'sche Companie , established after 1900 , which rehearsed a few pieces in Memmingen.

After the First World War , the city became a permanent stage location for the Bavarian State Theater in Munich . From 1937 the stage became independent and called itself Bayerische Landesbühne Sitz Memmingen . After the Second World War, the Memminger Ensemble was one of the first theaters in West Germany to be able to resume theater operations in 1945.

today

Today, a total of seventeen new productions are offered per season, seven of which are played in the big house and five in the studio. In addition, performances are shown on the stage in the foyer and at other locations within the theater. The State Theater Swabia also cooperates with other institutions and plays there on site, such as the play NippleJesus in the MEWO art gallery. The program ranges from the classics to contemporary literature. World premieres and German-language premieres also take place at the Landestheater. The theater is also known for its musical theater productions, which the pure acting ensemble skillfully brings to the stage.

As part of the annual Bavarian Theater Days , the State Theater has won several awards. The theater was awarded an overall prize for the conceptual idea and artistic implementation of the productions Hekuba, Vermummte and the Memmingen Talks. In addition, the Bavarian Theater Days take place at the Landestheater in Memmingen, most recently in 2006.
