The Hemmen Ice Rise is a 17.5 km long ice dome near the northern edge of the Antarctic Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf . It rises immediately to the northwest of Berkner Island .
The object is recorded for the first time on a map drawn up by the American polar explorer Finn Ronne in 1957 at Ellsworth Station . It was identified in the early 1970s using Landsat recordings. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him in 1977 to George Ethelbert inhibiting (* 1926), Secretary of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research in 1972, which as a meteorologist of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from 1953 to 1954 on the station in Admiralty Bay operates and had headed the station on Deception Island from 1953 to 1954 .
