Hendrik Jan (Henk) Zeevalking (born June 7, 1922 in Laag-Keppel , † February 23, 2005 in Delft ) was a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66).

Life

Zeevalking, who studied law in Utrecht , became politically active at a young age. He belonged to the Free Democratic Youth Association and was a member of the Dutch Student Council from 1947 to 1949. Later he joined the “ Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie ” (VVD). In 1966 he left this party and was one of the founders of the " Democrats 66 " (D66). From October 1979 to September 1981 he was chairman of the D66. From 1970 to 1975 he was a member of the Utrecht Municipal Council for them, and from 1970 to 1974 also as an alderman. From June 1975 to September 1977 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. 1977 to 1979 he was a member of the Tweede Kamer , the Dutch parliament, as a member of the D66 . From January 1979 to September 1981 he was Mayor of Rijswijk . On September 11, 1981 he was appointed Minister for Transport and Water Management (in the cabinet of Agt II); he held this office until November 4, 1982.

This ended his political career in the strict sense; In the following years Zeevalking held various offices in the foundation and university sector; he belonged to B. for several years on the executive committee of the TU Delft .
