Henrik Wann Jensen

Henrik Wann Jensen (* 1969 in Harlev , Denmark ) is a Danish computer graphics engineer.

Career

Henrik Wann Jensen is Chief Scientist at Luxion (maker of KeyShot) and Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego . He previously held positions at Stanford University , MIT , Weta Digital , Mental Images and Pixar Animation Studios . In 1993 he received his M.Sc. in electrical engineering and in 1996 his Ph.D. in computer science at the DTU .

Research areas

His research focuses on creating photorealistic images from 3D models. His contributions to computer graphics include the photon mapping algorithm for global lighting and the first technique for efficiently simulating sub-surface scattering in translucent materials . His pictures have appeared on the covers of National Geographic Magazine and SIGGRAPH litigation papers.

Awards

He received a Oscar for technical merit of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the production of special transparent skin of Gollum in Lord of the Rings . He also received a Sloan Scholarship and was selected as one of the top ten scientists by Popular Science magazine .
