Henry Albert Allen (born June 28, 1898 in Hackney , † 1976 ) was an English football player .

Career

Allen played in the London League for Gnome Athletic and was initially registered as an amateur with West Ham United and later with Arsenal FC . In November 1920, Allen played as the Gnome player for the Essex selection in the Southern Counties Championship in Southend , adding one goal to make it 2-0 alongside his strike partners Frank Richardson , James Dillimore and Jack Leslie (all from Barking Town ) -Success against Middlesex at. In early 1921 he moved to Southend United in the Third Division South , but since Allen was still registered with Arsenal, Arsenal lodged a complaint with the Football League against this process. The two clubs finally agreed to carry out the transfer, Southend was fined ten guineas . At Southend Allen came under coach Tom Mather sporadically in the sequence , after his dismissal in early 1922 he was used more regularly by successor Ted Birnie . The press attested Allen to play "pretty good football" in March 1922, but from last place in the table, this coach change could no longer bring the club, so that one had to face a re-election at the end of the season to maintain the league status.

After he had remained without an assignment for Southend in the following season, Allen moved within the league to Gillingham FC in the summer of 1923 and came there in his only season around the turn of the year 1923/1924 to a total of eight appearances - but in contrast to his usual position as left winger on the right wing. In July 1924 he moved again within the Third Division South and came to Charlton Athletic until his last use in December 1925 to a total of 38 league and 5 cup appearances. He scored the only goal of his Football League career in April 1925 in a 5-1 win over Aberdare Athletic . His football career was continued from the summer of 1926 in the Southern League at Grays Thurrock United .
