Henry Erskine, 12th Earl of Buchan

Henry David Erskine, 12th Earl of Buchan (July 1783 - September 13, 1857 in London ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Henry Erskine (1746-1817), lawyer and "King's Advocate"; his mother was Christian, daughter of George Fullerton. At the death of his uncle David Stuart Erskine, 11th Earl of Buchan , who died in 1829 without a legitimate heir, he inherited his title Earl of Buchan and the subordinate titles Lord Auchterhouse and Lord Cardross . The assumption of this title was also formally confirmed to him in 1830 by the Committee for Privileges and Conduct of the House of Lords .

Nothing is known about his further life or activities. He died in London on September 13, 1857, and his body was buried in Ripon Cathedral after the transfer .

He was married three times. The first marriage, on September 28, 1809, to Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Charles Shipley, Brigadier General and Governor of Grenada, had six sons; including David Stuart , heir and later 13th Earl; and three daughters. The second marriage was on June 26, 1830 with Elisabeth, daughter of John Harvey of Castle Semple, with whom he also had a son and two daughters. The third marriage, on June 26, 1839, to Caroline, daughter of James Primrose Maxwell of Tuppendean, remained childless.
