Henry Hughes (* 1983/1984) is an American filmmaker .

Life

Hughes comes from a war veteran family who have served as soldiers since the British settled America. One of Hughes 'ancestors is Timothy Matlack , the scribe who wrote the draft of the United States' Declaration of Independence . Hughes' father was a colonel in the army while his mother had the rank of captain. Hughes grew up in the United States, including Texas , Kentucky, and Georgia , as well as in Europe , including Germany .

Hughes studied film at the College of Communication at Boston University until 2006 , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. His directorial debut was the feature film Abandoned , which he made while studying with fellow student Mitchell Sandler. The film was shown in 2006 as part of the Redstone Film Festival. Hughes then joined the military and became a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade . Between the ages of 22 and 24, he took part in combat in Afghanistan ; he served in the US Army for five years .

After his military service, Hughes studied directing at the American Film Institute . During this time, through the National Mentoring Program of the veteran organization American Corporate Partners, he was placed as a mentor by George Lucas , who advised him on his first steps in the film business. Hughes' graduation film for the Master of Fine Arts was Day One in 2015 , set in the Afghan War and based on a true story. Day One was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Short Film in 2016 .

Hughes is married; he lives in Los Angeles .
