Henry Mill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry Mill (* around 1683; † 1771 ) was an English inventor. He worked as a hydraulic engineer for the New River Company . Only a few details and no drawings are known of the patent for a typewriter granted to him in 1714 . However, this patent specification is considered to be the oldest written mention of a machine for individual writing.

The patent refers to a machine for "imprinting or transferring individual or consecutive letters onto paper or parchment so cleanly and precisely that it is indistinguishable from printing". In addition, the script is “deeper and more consistent than any other script. It cannot be deleted or forged without leaving recognizable traces ”. There is nothing in the patent specification about technical details.
