Paloma Varga Weisz , (* 1966 in Mannheim ) is a German sculptor and illustrator .

Life and professional development

Paloma Varga Weisz was born in Mannheim and grew up in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . She is the youngest daughter of Feri Varga , who has lived and worked as a Hungarian artist mainly in France and Germany . From 1987 to 1990 she learned wood carving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . From 1990 to 1998 she studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Tony Cragg and Gerhard Merz . Her versatile work includes sculptures and installations, mainly in wood and ceramics, as well as watercolors and drawings . "Paloma Varga Weisz's plastic oeuvre is characterized by obvious recourse to iconographic and craft traditions and combines history with a contemporary artistic practice that only sparsely reveals its genealogical roots."
