Henry Wadsworth Gould (born August 26, 1928 in Portsmouth , Virginia ) is an American mathematician who mainly deals with combinatorics . He was a professor at West Virginia University .

Henry Gould studied at the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in 1954 and a master's degree in 1956. In 1957/58 he was Alfred Brauer's assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He became an instructor in 1958 and a professor at West Virginia University in 1969.

He dealt with combinatorics (including binomial coefficients), special functions of mathematical physics and Dirichlet series. The Gouldian series is named after him.

From 1967 to 1970 he was a lecturer at the Mathematical Association of America and from 1974 to 1976 at SIAM . He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications.

Gould was Associate Editor of the Fibonacci Quarterly.
