The Henschel EA 1000 was an electric locomotive built by Henschel in 16 copies for catenary and battery operation. The locomotives built in 1966 were procured from Rheinstahl-Bergbau AG in four and from Hibernia AG in twelve and classified as Rheinstahl E1 to E4 and Hibernia E1 to E12 . They had an hourly output of 720 kW. The type designation means electric / battery locomotive and the horsepower class of the locomotive. There is no machine left.

Original version

In the course of its extensive electrification of the route, Rheinstahl Bergbau AG acquired four locomotives of this type from Henschel in Kassel in 1966 . The locomotives were multi-system locomotives and could be used for the two voltage systems 15 kV 16 2/3 Hz AC and 15 kV 50 Hz AC. The locomotive was also equipped with a battery to operate non-electrified sections of the route.

Two years later, by 1969, Hibernia AG purchased twelve locomotives of this type, which, apart from a few changes, corresponded to the Rheinstahl locomotives. The Rheinstahl locomotives were equipped with disc brakes, whereas the Hibernia locomotives had block brakes . All locomotives were equipped with an electric brake . The Hibernia locomotives were made slightly shorter and the fan arrangement changed, the front end of the Rheinstahl locomotives was beveled, while the front end of the Hibernia locomotives was straight.

All locomotives were taken over by Ruhrkohle AG in the 1970s and operated until the end of the 1980s. Two locomotives were still there, the others were shut down due to lack of spare parts and wear and tear and scrapped in the mid-1990s.

The existing operational locomotives were numbered E7 and E9 when they were commissioned at Hibernia . In the meantime they had been given the designation RAG 021 and 022 . The locomotives were converted in the Gladbeck workshop to a higher performance and three-phase AC technology similar to the Henschel E 1200 . As a result of the conversion program, the maximum power of the locomotive could be increased to 1600 kW. The auxiliary drive with battery was dispensed with in favor of a diesel-electric drive . The cab and stems were raised by about 100 mm. These modifications were carried out until 1992. A new registration of the locomotives on DB tracks was sought, but not realized. The conversion of other existing locomotives was not implemented.

After the conversion, the locomotives were designed for a maximum load of 2900 t and could be used for a load of 2000 t at 60 km / h or 1000 t at 80 km / h. The RAG 022 locomotive was in use until 2006 and was parked after the deadline. It was cannibalized as a spare parts donor and scrapped in 2011. The other locomotive was taken over by RBH Logistics and was named Gladbeck 021 there . It was scrapped in Gladbeck in 2014.
