The series MaK G 850 BB are four-axle truck - diesel locomotives that have been designed for heavy shunting and medium mainline service on industrial railways. From 1966 to 1974 22 units were built in standard gauge (1435 mm) by the company Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK).

development

In the case of the locomotives, the power transmission from the fluid transmission was realized by means of cardan shafts , which made the locomotive possible as a bogie design.

The locomotives belong to the second generation of Mak and Vossloh locomotives . The designation scheme expresses the power transmission with cardan shafts (G), the performance program (roughly the engine output with 850 HP) and the axle sequence (BB).

technology

The locomotives have two stems. One front section contains the engine and gearbox, the other houses auxiliary services. The central driver's cab has diagonally offset control panels. These locomotives differ from the more powerful MaK G 1100 BB only in the lack of a turbocharger .

Two different fluid transmissions from Voith could be selected: either a normal fluid transmission or a fluid reversing transmission .

The power transmission from the transmission output shaft located between the bogies takes place via cardan shafts and gear set backsets to the respective inner gear sets, from these via a through drive of the back gear via a further cardan shaft to the back gear of the outer gear sets. The service weight is between 68 and 80 tons, depending on the version, the tank capacity is 3000 liters.

commitment

19 locomotives were sold to the steel group ARBED in Luxembourg (now merged into ArcelorMittal ) and used in heavy shunting and handover services. Almost all of the locomotives are still there; they were handed over to the state-owned CFL Cargo around 2007 . There they were given the company numbers 301–319 and the NVR numbers 98 82 0000 3xx-y L-CFLCA .

Two locomotives were sold to the steel company Italsider , the whereabouts of these locomotives is not known.

The machine with the factory number MaK 800172 received the Röchling-Burbach steelworks . This was scrapped in 2005 after an engine failure.
