Herbert Conert

Herbert Conert (born September 8, 1886 in Magdeburg ; † June 7, 1946 in Dresden ) was a German architect , town planner and construction clerk , from 1945 to 1946 he worked as a town planner in Dresden.

Life

1911 Conert was with the dissertation The Saxon terrain societies and their influence on the urban expansion at the Technical University Dresden for Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) PhD . He took part in the First World War as a reserve lieutenant , where he was wounded in October 1914 and was taken prisoner by the French .

Act

From 1922 Conert headed the Dresden building police office , in 1932 he became head of the city expansion office. As the executive architect, he and Karl Paul Andrae managed the redesign of Dresden's Königsufer planned by Paul Wolf under National Socialist auspices from 1933 to 1936 . In 1936 Conert took over the management of the city planning office of the city of Dresden.

From 1945 until his death, Conert was Dresden City Planning Director and was in charge of the building administration immediately after the Second World War. During this time he worked out the Great Dresden Construction Plan , the first urban development concept for the reconstruction of the heavily destroyed Dresden. Conerts aim was to mediate between tradition and modernity in the reconstruction of the city of Dresden. After the end of the war, Conert was also a co-founder of the CDU in Dresden and Saxony.

Conerts grave is on the Loschwitz cemetery in Dresden. The Conertplatz in Dresden has been named after Herbert Conert since 1993.
