Herbert Gericke

Herbert Gericke (born May 1, 1895 in Münder am Deister , † 1978 ) was a German art historian.

Gericke was a professor at the United State Schools for Free and Applied Arts in Berlin . In 1927 he became director of the Villa Massimo in Rome. For political reasons he was deposed in 1938 and replaced by Fred. C. Willis replaced. In 1956 he was reappointed to the office and stayed there until 1965.

At the Viktoria-Gymnasium (today's Helmholtz-Gymnasium ) in Potsdam, Gericke was a classmate and friend of the pianist Wilhelm Kempff .

He was married to Erika (nee Kunheim, 1905–1986), Eduard Arnhold's granddaughter .
