Herbert Ranggetiner

Herbert Ranggetiner (* 1968 ) is an Austrian sports and alpine climber and film producer. He achieved numerous first ascents up to difficulty level 9a as well as free solos up to level 8b. He also produced three climbing films, including The Red Tower . Ranggetiner works as a mountain guide and lives in Mühlbach im Pinzgau .

Career

Herbert Ranggetiner began climbing in 1994 and after six months already reached the top seventh French level of difficulty. On the south face of the Red Tower in the Lienz Dolomites, he opened up a sport climbing area from 1999 at an altitude of 2,600 meters. There he managed the first ascent of his most difficult routes to date:

  • Einstein (8b +), first climbed in 2001, first East Tyrolean route in this level of difficulty
  • Home game (8c), first ascended on June 7, 2003
  • Per Semper (8c +), first entered 2004, so far without repetition (status: 2010)
  • Licht und Schatten (9a), first ascended on July 5, 2006 after four years of projecting, so far also without repetition

In total, Ranggetiner has so far been able to climb over 100 routes from 8a upwards.

Ranggetiner also climbed routes free-solo again and again. So far he has managed around 50 rope- free solo ascents , including the route www.hornhaut.ade (8b), which he had previously climbed for the first time, in 2006 , one of the most difficult free solo ascents in the world to date.
