Mühlbach im Pinzgau is a district and a cadastral community of Bramberg am Wildkogel . The place belongs to the Zell am See district and is located in the west of Salzburg in Austria .

geography

The cadastral community is located in Oberpinzgau at the southern foot of the 2225  m high Wildkogel in the municipality of Bramberg and west of the municipality of Hollersbach im Pinzgau . The stream of the same name flows through Mühlbach and is one of the few tributaries of the Oberpinzgau that flows into the Salzach from the north . Its valley runs upstream from the village of Mühlbach in an arc first in a northerly direction and then swings to the west behind the Wildkogel.

history

In ancient times the area was a center of copper ore mining. Mühlbach im Pinzgau was temporarily the seat of the Mining Authority . Mining in Mühlbach was first mentioned in documents in 1425 and was owned by the Augsburg family until the mines were sold to the Archbishop of Salzburg in 1638 . In 1863 the mining was stopped, later attempts at revival failed. However, there are still numerous house and farm names that point to the past, such as "Knappenstubn", "Öfner", "Grubenhüter", "Schmirber", "Administrator", "Handelsschmied" and others. The building in which the k. u. k. Forest Administration was housed. Today this building is the seat of the "Bergbauforschung Bramberg", a mining history association that deals with research into mining in the Oberpinzgau.

As part of the Salzburg transport network , both post buses in the direction of Krimml and Zell am See and the narrow-gauge Pinzgauer local train , which connects Zell am See to the Austrian main rail network of ÖBB , stop in public transport in Mühlbach .

Mühlbach im Pinzgau has its own soccer club, SC Mühlbach , which plays in the 1st regional league south and thus in the highest league in the state of Salzburg .
