Herbert Schuster
Herbert Schuster (born April 27, 1929 - † August 31, 2018 ) was a German basketball coach and official. Schuster is considered one of the pioneers of basketball in Baden-Württemberg .
career
From the 1950s onwards, Schuster was involved with TV Säckingen (later TV Bad Säckingen), initially in the fields of field handball and athletics . He was head of the athletics department and also worked as a trainer, in 1959 he was awarded the Badge of Honor of the South Baden Athletics Association.
In 1958 he founded the basketball division of TV Säckingen with Herbert Grossmann and was coach of various women's, men's and youth teams until 1978. In 1969 the Säckingen Juniors came third in the German Championship under Schuster's leadership. In 1969, he was as well as coach of the men's team of the YMCA Birsfelden in as coach of the Swiss national team Ladies National League A operates.
Schuster, who ran a print shop in Bad Säckingen full-time until 2009 , trained the women's team at TV Bad Säckingen in the Bundesliga after leading the team to the top German division in 1977. His wife Franca was one of his players.
In 1978 he moved to ESV Waldshut, where he built up a basketball division.
After its founding in 1959, Schuster was an assessor on the board of the South Baden Basketball Association, and from 1960 to 2004 he was the association's youth manager. In the basketball association of Baden-Württemberg (BBW) he held the office of regional coach for several years, from 1993 to 2004 he was the district performance officer. In 2007 Schuster was made an honorary member of the BBW.
